Panic function electromechanical mortise locks
Locks with a panic function make it possible to open even deadlocked doors in the escape direction (from the inside out) with only a single hand by a handle or panic rod. Regardless of the electric state of the mortise lock by using the handle or panic rod the latch and deadbolts retract and release.
Both the escape route (EN 179) and panic exit locks (EN 1125) have a panic function. Regulations regarding panic exits are stricter, panic bars are used here. At these exits, it must be ensured that with minimum effort and without knowing how the emergency function of the lock operates, the door must be openable, an escape opportunity has to be provided. The required opening force can be up to 220N, with 1000N preload on the door.
According to the specifications (EN 179, 1125) only components approved together may be used. Mortise locks will be certified together with fittings, panic rods and striking plates. The requirements are only met if the locks are installed and used exclusively with these components.
